Long Island Player of the Year

Alex Robinson, Holy Trinity, P, Sr.
The Titans lefthander was dynamic in helping the Titans win the NSCHSAA championship. He throws his fastball in the low 90s and has an excellent curveball. He was dominant in almost every outing. He went 7-0 with a 0.58 ERA and 0.66 WHIP. In 48 innings, he allowed 12 hits, walked 20 and struck out 96.

The Maryland-bound Robinson allowed one extra-base hit. Robinson was the state Gatorade Player of the Year and finished his career 19-2 with a 0.77 ERA and 189 strikeouts in 128 innings. Robinson won Game 1 of the NSCHSAA best-of-three championship series by throwing a two-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts in an 8-1 win over St. Anthony's. In Game 1 of the semifinals against St. John the Baptist, Robinson threw a two-hitter and struck out 13 in a 2-0 win. Robinson threw his fourth career no-hitter with a career-high 19 strikeouts in the regular season against St. Mary's.

Suffolk Player of the Year

Mike O'Reilly, Shoreham-Wading River, P/SS, Sr.
O'Reilly won the 45th Yastrzemski Award, which goes to the best player in Suffolk. O'Reilly batted .467 with a school-record 17 doubles, 21 runs, four home runs, 23 RBI, a .789 slugging percentage and struck out just six times in 90 at-bats. He had 42 hits, which is second in program history. He went 8-3 with a 1.24 ERA and 0.77 WHIP. O'Reilly pitched 84 2/3 innings and allowed 46 hits, 19 walks and struck out 141. O'Reilly, who will play at Flagler University, pitched 10 scoreless innings in the Long Island Class A championship game against Plainedge before allowing three runs in the 11th inning. It snapped a streak of 22 consecutive scoreless innings pitched in the playoffs. He allowed six hits, walked three and struck out a program-record 19 in a 3-1 loss. O'Reilly also hit two walk-off homers in the postseason and helped SWR win its second consecutive Suffolk Class A championship.

Casey Baker, Connetquot, SS, Jr.
Baker hit .441 with 21 runs, 13 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, 13 walks and struck out once in 68 at-bats during the regular season. Baker batted .636 (14-for-22) with nine runs, six walks, seven RBI and six stolen bases in the postseason as the T-Birds won the Suffolk Class AA county title.

Will Cheshire, MacArthur, CF, Sr.
Cheshire had a hit in every game. He batted .423 with 23 runs, 24 RBI and a .516 on-base percentage. He will play baseball and football at Nassau Community College.

Charles Galiano, Commack, C, Sr.
Galiano was drafted in the 36th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. Galiano batted .372 with 21 runs, eight doubles, two triples, 24 RBI and four stolen bases to help Commack win the Suffolk League I title. He will play at Fordham University.

Dave Groeneveld, St. Anthony's, 1B, Sr.
Groeneveld helped lead the Friars to the NSCHSAA finals for the first time in 11 seasons. He batted .463 with 11 doubles, three triples, one home run, 30 RBI, a .516 on-base percentage and a .688 slugging percentage. He will play at C.W. Post.

David Leiderman, Bellmore JFK, 2B, Sr.
Leiderman had a hit in every game he played, including 14 multiple-hit games. He batted .609 with nine doubles, one home run and 13 RBI. He will play at Hofstra.

Tyler Manez, Plainedge, P/OF, Sr.
Manez was drafted with the first pick of the 32nd round by the Houston Astros. Manez pitched 11 innings and allowed eight hits, no walks and struck out 10 in a win in the Long Island Class A championship. He went 7-2 with a 1.06 ERA with 31 walks and 117 strikeouts in 72 innings. He batted .308 with two home runs and 19 RBI. He will play at Elon University.

Nick Nunziato, Ward Melville, SS, Sr.
Nunziato is an excellent defensive player and one of the top power hitters on the Island. He batted .478 with seven doubles, four triples, six home runs, 37 RBI and a .917 slugging percentage. He will play at the University of New Haven.

Jack Parenty, Holy Trinity, 2B, Sr.
Parenty was the ideal leadoff hitter. He got on base consistently and was very aggressive on the bases. He batted .441 with 23 runs, 17 RBIs, 24 stolen bases and a .563 on-base percentage. He will play at Stony Brook.

Mike Rizzitello, Connetquot, C, Sr.
Rizzitello batted .370 with 19 runs, 12 walks, one home run, 17 RBIs and five stolen bases during the regular season. He hit .333 with eight walks, seven runs, three RBIs and three stolen bases during the postseason. He will play at Dowling.

C.J. Schildt, Hauppauge, P/1B, Sr.
Schildt went 6-2 with a 0.80 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. He allowed 42 hits, no home runs or triples, walked 16 and struck out 73 in 61 innings. He picked off six runners and batted .321 with a homer and 21 RBI. He didn't commit an error and will play at Stony Brook.

Joe Siringo, Oyster Bay, P/1B/3B, Sr.
Siringo helped Oyster Bay win the Nassau Class B championship with an 8-1 record and 0.66 ERA. He pitched 64 innings and allowed 27 hits, 17 walks and struck out 106. Siringo, who will play at Sacred Heart, batted .468 with 32 runs, three home runs, 20 RBI and a .649 slugging percentage.

Frank Trimarco, Calhoun, P/1B, Sr.
The lefthander went 7-2 with a 1.14 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in helping the Colts reach the state Class AA semifinals. In 80 innings, he allowed 54 hits, walked 16 and struck out 105. Trimarco hit .340 and will play at Monmouth University.

Matt Vogel, Patchogue-Medford, P/SS, Jr.
Vogel batted .420 with 26 runs, 20 RBIs and a .630 slugging percentage. On the mound, he went 2-1 with a 1.20 ERA, striking out 43 in 23 innings.
