Plaschka's record time of 43.70 in winning the 100-yard freestyle topped his 44.12 record clocking set Friday in the state preliminaries. For his efforts, he was named the meet's outstanding swimmer.
At the state championship preliminary meet Friday, Smithtown senior Ben Cono broke the 100-yard breaststroke mark in 55.01 seconds and Hauppauge senior Justin Plaschka broke records in the 50 freestyle (20.08) and 100 freestyle (44.12).
Junior James Gordin won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.83 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 47.96, both state qualifying times. Gordin and his 200 freestyle relay teammates Justin Chang, Alex Park and Dylan Chan placed first in 1:29.81.
Justin Plaschka keeps winning and winning and winning. Though he's lost track of exact number, Hauppauge swimming coach Rich Lionetti said the senior has won every dual-meet event he's entered since his sophomore year.
