The play was called "Outside Run Read." It was designed for Glenn quarterback Rich Czeczotka so that he could run either up the middle or off tackle, depending on the defense.

On this particular play, Czeczotka chose to run up the middle. The result? The quarterback sliced through the heart of the Babylon defense untouched for a 55-yard score to put the Knights up 21-0.

Czeczotka's run was characteristic of the afternoon as top-seeded Glenn cruised to a 42-7 victory over fourth-seeded Babylon Saturday to advance to the Suffolk IV championship.

Czeczotka accounted for 240 total yards and four total touchdowns. He went 9-of-16 for 183 yards and three passing touchdowns, and ran for 57 yards and a score.

Tommy Forsberg ran 80 yards for a touchdown on the Knights' opening play from scrimmage and had 135 rushing yards on 11 carries.

"Our entire offense was clicking," Czeczotka said.

The Glenn offense used a varied mix of run and pass plays to keep the Babylon defense on its heels. After Forsberg's score, Czeczotka connected with Jon Mannix on a 34-yard pass to give Glenn a 14-0 lead with 11:54 left in the second quarter.

After scoring his touchdown, Czeczotka added a 15-yard touchdown pass to Nick Wagner with 1:20 left to put Glenn up 28-0 at the half.

"Our receivers did a great job of getting open," Czeczotka said. "I just found them, and they made the plays after that."

It wasn't all about Glenn's offense. The Knights' defense also joined the scoring when Nick Princiotta returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown with ten minutes left in the third quarter to put the Knights up 35-0.

"All of our players are quick," Glenn coach Dave Shanahan said. "That can cause matchup problems for anyone when we're on defense."

Glenn's final score came with 6:45 left in the third quarter when Czeczotka hit Mannix again on a 50-yard touchdown. Mannix finished with four receptions for 105 yards and two scores.

The Panthers finally got on the board with 1:54 left in the game when backup quarterback Nick Santorelli threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Ray Wardell.

The win puts Glenn into the conference final Thursday night at Stony Brook University, where the Knights will face second-seeded Amityville.

"It's going to be a tough game," Czeczotka said. "But we're that much closer to reaching our goal."
