Moore Catholic is considered a favorite to reach the CHSAA Class A final, but the Mavericks first have to get by a pesky Bishop Ford squad in the quarterfinals Saturday at Noon. The game, being played at Mount St. Michael, will be live on MSGVarsity.com.
Moore (19-5) has enjoyed a banner regular season, winning its first 13 games, including an impressive 49-47 victory against Staten Island powerhouse St. Peter’s.
The Mavericks also defeated Iona Prep, 66-64, in overtime in New Rochelle, a game that could be a preview of the Class A final at Fordham University.
Moore is led by Scott Schaefer, who averages 12.6 points per game, Mark Fiorello, who averages 11.8 points per game, and John Baggs, a standout pitcher for the Mavericks baseball team, who averages 11.1 points per game.
Jordan Sanders and Frankie Schettino each average 8.1 points per game.
Bishop Ford (9-14), which has won three of its last five games, is led by 6-foot-4 forward Josh Blagrove, a two-time All-CHSAA Class A selection. The Falcons, who enter the postseason off a 54-43 victory against Riverdale, also feature solid guards Daquian Youngblood and Marc Jones.
Will Moore Catholic take one step closer to the Class A title game or will Bishop Ford pull off the quarterfinal upset? Find out Saturday at Noon live on MSGVarsity.com.
