Leon M. Goldstein won the PSAL Class B girls volleyball championship in exciting fashion, beating Fort Hamilton, 25-19, 20-25, 27-25 Monday night at Hunter College.

The first set saw fourth-seeded Goldstein (10-2) come up big with senior captain Rashelle Ripa leading the charge. She had three aces and two digs and was a force whenever she touched the ball. Her tenacity was a big reason for the Dolphins taking the first set, 25-19.

No. 3 Fort Hamilton (10-2) was primed for a comeback in the second set as the Tigers were quicker to the ball and more active around the net. With the score knotted at 8, the Tigers went on a 7-2 run and, despite a late effort from the Dolphins, Fort Hamilton hung on to a 25-20 win to level the match.

Fort Hamilton was three points away from claiming its first PSAL 'B' title, but Goldstein rallied from 22-18 down to take the third set, 27-5, thanks to a big-time kill from Kristen Hershenroder, who finished with 12 kills and four aces.
