NYC wrestling power rankings (2/7/12)

No. 1 Monsignor Farrell (16-5)

The Lions reign over the CHSAA continued Saturday as Farrell captured its eighth straight CHSAA city wrestling title at Salesian. Blaise Rufo, Will Wilson, Paul Hartnett, Mike Bourgelais, Andrew Psomas, Rrok Ndokaj, Matt Roberts, Rich Sisti, Casey Redmond and Mazen Hassan all won individual championships.

No. 2 Grand Street Campus (12-1)

After beating rival Brooklyn Tech in the PSAL championship, the Wolves took second in the Mayor’s Cup with Josh Antoine, Keanu Thompson, Deuly Espinal and Jorje Jimenez winning individual titles.

No. 3 Brooklyn Tech (11-2)

Cristian Masaya beat teammate Patrick Alcantara to win the Mayor’s Cup at 152 pounds, Patryk Kopczynski won at 220 pounds and Shaquille Williams took the 285-pound crown as Brooklyn Tech finished third last weekend.

No. 4 Wingate (15-2)

Barry Hart took home the title at 138 pounds, while McZiggy Richards won at 182 pounds for Wingate at the Mayor’s Cup last weekend.

No. 5 Horace Mann (20-3)

Led by Ivy champions Max Futterman, Justin Gilson, Zach Dinan, Matt Russo and Bennett Heller, Horace Mann captured its 12th consecutive Ivy tournament title Saturday and now has its sights on the State Private School championships.

No. 6 Eagle Academy (12-6)

The Eagles finished fourth in the PSAL and seventh in the Mayor’s Cup last weekend.

No. 7 Poly Prep (3-2)

After beating Collegiate, 61-12, the Blue Devils finished second behind Horace Mann at the Ivy League tournament Saturday at Trinity.

No. 8 Petrides (10-2)

After losing to eventual PSAL champion Grand Street Campus in the PSAL quarterfinals, Petrides finished eighth at the Mayor’s Cup last weekend at the Harlem Armory.

No. 9 Fordham Prep (13-13)

Chris Martorello, Sam Melikian and Mike Castellucci all took home CHSAA city titles for Fordham Prep, which finished second behind Monsignor Farrell in the team standings.

No. 10 FDR (9-2)

The Cougars just missed out on the PSAL playoffs, losing to rival James Madison in a tiebreaker, but finished 10th overall at the Mayor’s Cup last weekend.

The Golden Knights lost to Eagle Academy in the PSAL quarterfinals and finished 11th overall at the Mayor’s Cup at the Harlem Armory.

No. 12 St. Joseph by the Sea (14-4)

Mike Dudziec was the lone city champion and Brandan Sierp and Nick Paradiso were finalists for the Vikings, who finished fourth overall at the CHSAA city championships Saturday at Salesian.

No. 13 Tottenville (8-3)

Santo Curatolo captured the Mayor’s Cup title at 113 pounds last weekend, helping lead the Pirates to a ninth-place finish.

Cheick Ndiyae beat Brooklyn Tech’s Zin Htoo to win the 106-pound Mayor’s Cup title and Abubokarr Sow won the 126-pound championship, helping lead Brooklyn International to a 13th-place finish last weekend.

Baruch finished second in PSAL Manhattan this year, but had a solid 15th-place showing at the Mayor’s Cup last weekend.
