2011 All-City boys soccer team

Meet the athletes who excelled during the 2011 boys soccer season in New York City.

The teams were selected by Dylan Butler.

FIRST TEAM

IBRAHIM DIABY
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Midfielder, Sr., Martin Luther King

His season started with an abdominal strain, which caused him to miss seven games. But it ended with Diaby scoring the winning goal in the title game as MLK won PSAL title No. 13. The sensational senior finished with 17 goals, none more important than his 69th-minute header to break a 2-2 tie with Francis Lewis, as well as 10 assists.

MAX BROWN
Beacon, Sr., Goalkeeper

Brown spent the preseason in England, training with Manchester City’s U18 Academy team. When he returned, the Northeastern-bound senior had seven clean sheets to lead the Blue Demons.

CHRISTIAN MILANO
St. Francis Prep, Sr., Defender

The anchor of St. Francis Prep’s defense and a four-year starter, Milano was a calming influence in the defensive third, helping lead the Terriers backline that conceded just eight regular-season goals. He also scored one of the best free kicks of the season in a win against Regis.

MARK KRAMARCHUK
Fordham Prep, Sr., Defender

Dominant in the air, Kramarchuk wasn’t just one of the top defenders in the city, he was also one of the most dangerous players on set pieces in the attacking third.

ELIAS BRESNICK
Collegiate, So., Defender

Defense wins championships and Bresnick, who missed four games because of a broken wrist, is a big reason why Collegiate captured a second consecutive NYSAISAA title. The sweeper anchors a team going for three in a row next fall.

DANNY BEDOYA
Francis Lewis, Sr., Midfielder

A maestro with the ball at his feet, the senior midfielder always made the right decision, whether it was slowing down the action, switching fields or playing that killer ball forward. He had 16 goals and 14 assists, leading Francis Lewis to the PSAL title game for a second straight year.

TAREK BECKLES
Martin Luther King, Jr., Midfielder

It was a banner year for the junior midfielder, who had 16 goals, including four in the playoffs, and added a remarkable 20 assists to guide the Knights to yet another PSAL title and an undefeated season

CHRIS JOSEPH
St. Francis Prep, Sr., Midfielder

The emotional leader of the Terriers and a dynamic and smart midfielder with a never-ending motor, Joseph helped will his team to the CHSAA Class AA intersectional title, a title that eluded him since he joined the varsity team as a freshman.

BRYAN MOYA
Martin Luther King, Jr., Midfielder

While Diaby and Beckles did the bulk of the scoring as attacking mifielders, Moya was the engine that made MLK go. The cerebral holding midfielder had eight goals and 17 assists, always providing the killer pass.

RYAN MCLAUGHLIN
Regis, Sr., Forward

McLaughlin has everything you’d want in a striker – speed, a nice touch, tremendous heart and an eye for the goal. The senior led the CHSAA with 16 goals, helping lead the Raiders to the Class AA quarterfinals.

DYLAN COPE
Fordham Prep, Sr., Forward

He came into the season with reputation of being a magician with the ball at his feet, but Cope proved he’s no one-trick pony by scoring just about every important postseason goal for the Rams, which won their first-ever CHSAA Class AA state title.

COACH OF THE YEAR

PETE MCNAMARA
Fordham Prep

It seemed McNamara had a little bit of everything to handle this season – high expectations, a bevy of injuries and figuring out a way to bounce back from a devastating loss in the CHSAA Class AA intersectional title game to guide the Rams to their first-ever State championship. And it came against St. John the Baptist, his alma mater, to boot.
