The graduating senior class at Poughkeepsie is expected to send over two dozen football players to the college level this fall. And the Pioneers are getting a jump on next year, as well.

Brandon Weir, a rising senior lineman, is emerging as one of the region’s most prized recruits. According to coach Ken Barger, Weir has received offers to play at West Point and Air Force, and has had 12 Division 1A and 1AA programs to visit him at school in recent months.

“He is carrying a 3.92 GPA and is an even better kid,” Barger said.

Weir, a 6-foot-3, 225-pounder, has been invited to camps at Georgia Tech, Stanford, Vanderbilt, UConn, Syracuse and several Ivy League schools.

As a junior, Weir was selected all-state in Class A after starting both ways for the Section 1 Class A champion Pioneers. He recorded 23 tackles and four sacks on defense, and had 10 pancake blocks on offense.
