NYC wrestling power rankings (12/20/11)

No. 1 Monsignor Farrell (9-4)

Is Monsignor Farrell primed to take home another CHSAA title? The Lions certainly made their intentions known Saturday, going 5-0 in the CHSAA City Crossover Duals at Iona Prep.

No. 2 Brooklyn Tech (6-1)

Convincing wins against Erasmus Hall and New Utrecht last week have set the stage for the PSAL title rematch with No. 4 Grand Street Campus on Wednesday.

No. 3 Horace Mann (10-2)

Horace Mann ended 2011 on a good note, beating Hackley, 44-24, last Wednesday. Justin Gilston went 5-0 and was named champion of the Clarkstown North tournament on Saturday.

No. 4 Grand Street Campus (6-0)

The Wolves hammered Canarsie and beat Boys & Girls by forfeit last week and now look to avenge a loss to Brooklyn Tech in the PSAL finals a year ago.

No. 5 Wingate (5-0)

Kenton Greaves, Ahmed Elsayed and Barry (The Hitman) Hart helped lead the Generals to a 60-21 win against Sheepshead Bay last week.

No. 6 Fordham Prep (7-4)

The Rams had a great showing at the CHSAA City Crossover Duals, beating St. Peter’s, St. Joseph by the Sea, Xavier and Xaverian. Their lone loss was to No. 1 Monsignor Farrell.

No. 7 Poly Prep (1-0)

The Blue Demons have been idle since opening the season with an impressive 75-3 rout of Riverdale.

The Golden Knights earned hard-fought victories against Midwood and Leon Goldstein, but now take a step up in competition to face No. 5 Wingate and No. 12 FDR Tuesday.

No. 9 St. Joseph by the Sea (12-2)

Michael Dudziec, Nick Martucci and Justin Platorati led the Vikings to wins against Mount St. Michael, Salesian and Stepinac at the CHSAA City Crossovers Saturday.

No. 10 Petrides (10-1)

Petrides took third place in the PSAL Holiday Tournament at Francis Lewis with Dolan McColgan winning the 99-pound championship and Chris Gioia finishing second at 182.

No. 11 Tottenville (4-0)

Led by Santo Curatolo, one of the top wrestlers at 113 pounds in the state, the Pirates defeated rival Curtis for the first time in a decade last Wednesday and all but knocked the Warriors out of the playoffs.

No. 12 FDR (8-0)

Lopsided wins against New Utrecht and East Harlem Pride set up pivotal matches with Wingate and James Madison with huge PSAL playoff implications.

No. 13 Curtis (7-4)

Back-to-back league losses to Petrides and Tottenville are devastating to the Warriors, who reached the semifinals last year after winning the PSAL title two years ago. Now, Curtis is likely to miss the citywide playoffs.

No. 14 Eagle Academy (5-0)

Led by seniors Xavier Thomas and Trevor Alston, Eagle Academy defeated Lehman, 66-18, last week to remain atop the Bronx standings.

No. 15 Mount St. Michael (2-4-1)

The Mountaineers defeated Salesian Thursday and picked up a win against Xaverian in a respectable performance at the CHSAA City Crossover Duals at Iona Prep. Captain Justin Vazquez went undefeated on the day and Craig Williams went 4-1.
