The MSG Varsity Connecticut staff selected the top players, coaches and teams from the 2012 season across the entire region.
Below are the award winners, as well as the first-team and second-team all-stars.

    TEAM OF THE YEAR

    Greenwich Academy

The Gators captured their first NEPSAC Class A title since 2002 and did so in dramatic fashion, with a 2-1 overtime victory over rival and nine-time reigning New England champ Hotchkiss. Greenwich Academy finished the season 19-2, posted 10 shutouts and outscored the opposition by a resounding 103-12.

    COACH OF THE YEAR

    Mo Minicus, Darien

The National Coach of the Year in 2010 and The Fairfield County Sports Commission's Sports Darien Person of the Year in 2011, Minicus guided the Blue Wave to a 21-1 record, a share of the FCIAC championship and the Class L state crown. In her 13 seasons at Darien, Minicus has led the Blue Wave to five FCIAC crowns and five state titles -- all in the past six seasons.

    FIRST TEAM

    EMILIA TAPSALL
    CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR
    Greenwich Academy, Sr., Forward

A two-time first team all-region, all-FAA and all-New England selection, Tapsall had 30 goals and 13 assists on the season. The MVP of the NEPSAC Class A tournament, Tapsall will take her talents to the University of Virginia.

    KAT HUBER
    CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR
    Darien, Sr., Midfield

A two-time all-region, all-state and all-FCIAC selection, the two-way standout was also named the CIAC Connecticut Player of the Year and to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association all-Region team for Southern New England after starring the Blue Wave's two title runs. Huber, who had eight goals and 13 assists this season, will play at Syracuse.

    BEA EPPLER
    New Canaan, Sr., Forward

A three-year starter, the first-team all-FCIAC choice helped power the Rams to a 14-3-2-1 mark and victories in both the league and state tournaments.

    PAM SCHULMAN
    Greenwich Academy, Sr., Forward

The CT Region Player of the Year in 2011, Schulman had another outstanding season with 19 goals and 33 assists. The Middlebury-bound Schulman was named all-FAA, all-New England and scored the game-winner in GA's dramatic overtime victory in the NEPSAC Class A finals.

    MADISON HENDRY
    Wilton, Jr., Midfield

A first-team all-state and all-league selection, Hendry was also named to the NFHCA all-Region team for Southern New England. She finished with 19 goals and 21 assists.

    JOANNE NAZARETH
    Wilton, Sr., Midfield

At an even five-feet, Nazareth was never the tallest player on the field, but she was always among the fastest. The first-team all-state and all-FCIAC standout also was selected to the Southern New England all-Region team in helping the Warriors defend their Class M championship. Nazareth hopes to play Division I at the next level.

    BRIDGET FALCONE
    New Canaan, Sr., Midfield

The two-time first-team all-FCIAC midfielder was chosen all-state and also earned a spot on the NFHCA all-Region team for Southern New England.

    LINDSEY ADAMS
    Warde, Sr., Midfield

Headed for Johns Hopkins next year, Adams led the Mustangs to a 10-5-2-1 record en route to first-team all-FCIAC honors for the second straight season.

    JESSICA NAPOLITANO
    Lauralton Hall, Sr., Defense

The all-SWC selection led the Crusaders' back line, anchoring a stingy unit that posted 14 shutouts and allowed only three goals during the regular season.

    MAGGIE WELLS
    Darien, Sr., Defense/Midfield

A first-team all-FCIAC and second-team all-state performer, Wells was a catalyst for a defensive unit that notched 15 shutouts and yielded just six goals all season.

    LIZETTE ROMAN-JOHNSTON
    Wilton, Jr., Goalie

Indeed, it was a breakthrough season in the cage for Roman-Johnston, who was credited with 17 shutouts en route to first-team all-state and all-FCIAC honors in addition to a spot on the NFHCA all-Region team for Southern New England.
