FCIAC girls player of the week: Sarah Mannelly

New Canaan's Sarah Mannelly has been named MSG Varsity's female FCIAC Athlete of the Week for May 7-May 12 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters. Mannelly led the Rams with five goals and one assist as they defeated Greenwich, 12-10, in a battle of unbeaten teams last Tuesday at Dunning Field. Mannelly got things started and finished for the Rams, scoring her team’s first three and last two goals of the night.
Mannelly then added six goals and one assist in New Canaan’s 19-7 romp over Yorktown on Saturday. Mannelly has signed to play at Boston College.
What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012?
Mannelly: "To win FCIACs and states (New Canaan enters the postseason with a perfect 15-0 record)."
Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Mannelly: "Olvia Hompe because we work pretty well together on offense."
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Mannelly: "Coach Wood says play every game like its your last."
Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Mannelly: "Michael Jordan, the greatest of all time."
What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Mannelly: "I guess I'd have to say getting into Boston College."
