Livecast primer: Danbury vs. Warde wrestling
The much-anticipated showdown between two of the state’s top wrestling programs will be live-streamed on MSGVarsity.com on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Powerhouse Danbury, which swept the state coaches poll voting for the fourth straight time, puts its remarkable unbeaten streak of 343 dual-meet matches in the FCIAC on the line against Warde, ranked No. 6 in Connecticut.
The Hatters are a perfect 10-0, and are coming off a 69-3 domination of Trumbull last week. To put that victory in perspective, Trumbull is ranked eighth in the state in the latest coaches poll.
The Mustangs swept a four-team meet on Friday against Westhill, Bristol Central and Fairfield Prep to improve to 11-0. Dan Ebert (113 pounds), Danny Almedia (126), Pharoh Eaton (132, 138), Casey Stopa (145), Kevin Kollar (152), Joe Marx (195) and heavyweight Mike Money all went undefeated on the day.
In 2010, Warde became the first team other than Danbury in 23 years to capture the FCIAC championship. The Hatters, however, finished more than 50 points ahead of runner-up Greenwich in last year’s league meet and currently own a 39-match winning streak in the state under coach Rick Shook.
