FCIAC boys player of the week: Andrew Read

New Canaan senior Andrew Read has been named the MSG Varsity's FCIAC Player of the Week for Dec. 31-Jan. 5 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters.
Read led the Rams to their first two victories of the season, including a 51-41 upset of two-time defending FCIAC champion Bassick last Friday night in New Canaan. Read netted a game-high 17 points, including 10 during the fourth quarter when the Rams outscored the Lions 18-8. Read was 7-for-8 on free throws in the fourth quarter, including 6-for-6 in the final 1:06. Read also racked up 17 points in a 47-42 win at Trumbull last Wednesday.
What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012-13?
Read: "Our team had a goal at the beginning of the year to make states."
Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Read: "I don't really have a favorite but I have enjoyed playing with the seniors because we have been teammates for the past 10 years."
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Read: "To always stay focused and to leave it all on the floor each game."
Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Read: "I love watching Jason Kidd because he is a great leader and point guard."
What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Read: "Completing the rank of Eagle Scout."
