FCIAC boys player of the week: Harry Warnick

Warde's Henry Warnick has been named MSG Varsity's male FCIAC Athlete of the Week for May 28-June 2 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters. Warnick, a senior, won the tough distance double as he took first in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the Class L track and field championships in Middletown last Tuesday. Warnick won the 1,600 in 4:23.68, before winning the 3,200 with a time of 9:33.18. Warnick has signed to run at Villanova next year.

What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012?
Warnick: "It was to place in state open meet and New Englands this weekend, so hopefully I can get top three."

Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Warnick: "I have three friends in Connor O'Day, Stu Peters and Chris Dencivengo who support me in races and run with every day."

What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Warnick: "My coach (Justin Ottavio) tells me to stay confident, so I always feel like I have a shot at winning."

Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Warnick: "Dustin Pedroia from the Red Sox. He goes all out in every game. Depsite his size, he fights just as hard as anyone."

What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Warnick: "Balancing school and track, just being able to manage my time between the two."
