FCIAC boys player of the week: Sean Riley

Ridgefield's Sean Riley has been named MSG Varsity's male FCIAC Athlete of the Week for May 14-May 19 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters. Riley racked up nine goals and one assist as the Ridgefield Tigers opened the postseason with a 15-4 win over Staples in last Saturday’s FCIAC quarterfinals. Riley’s scoring total could have been even higher, as he hit the crossbar twice. The Tigers led 5-3 when Riley netted three straight goals in the third period to push the lead to 8-3. In total, He scored four times in the third period when Ridgefield took control. The senior attackman will play at Vermont next year.

What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012?
Riley: "Definitely as a senior, to win FCIACs and states."

Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Riley: "To me, Sean Wilkinson is the best player in state. Tim Kelly, Sean and I make up the starting attack so I'd say those two guys."

What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Riley: "Coach (Roy) Colsey told us to play confident and come with swagger against Darien (Ridgefield won the game 12-11 Tuesday to reach the FCIAC finals).

Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Riley: "Kobe Bryant. I just love his mentality on the court, he's been a huge role model."

What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Riley: "Probably getting my acceptance letter from Vermont, which also has a Division I program."
