New Canaan senior Anna Borea has been named the MSG Varsity's FCIAC Player of the Week for Sept. 10-15 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters. Borea, a senior co-captain, scored the Rams’ first and last goals as they defeated two-time defending champion Greenwich, 3-1, in the season opening game last Wednesday. After Greenwich scored the first goal, Borea netted the equalizer in the 32nd minute, scoring on a free kick from 25 yards out. After younger sister Gabriella Borea made it 2-1 in the second half, Anna Borea sealed the win with another long-range goal in the 63rd minute.
What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012-13?
Borea: "Winning states and FCIACs. Isn't that every team's goal? We were co-champions for FCIAC my freshman year and state champions for states my freshman year as well. I'd love to do that again."
Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Borea: "My sister, Gabriella. How can I not pick my sister?"
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Borea: "To calm myself down before games. At a regional camp one year one of the coaches told me to do whatever it takes to calm myself down before the game. Reading calms me down, so now I read a book before every game."
Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Borea: "Abby Wambach. She's always so assertive in games and I always want to be that assertive."
What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Borea: "When I was 12 years-old I ran seven miles. I was pretty proud of that."
