FCIAC girls player of the week: Ashyla Cody
Stamford senior Ashyla Cody has been named the MSG Varsity's FCIAC Player of the Week for Jan. 7-12 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters.
Cody collected a team-high 17 points as the Black Knights remained undefeated with a 58-54 win over city rival Trinity Catholic last Friday night. Cody, one of just two seniors on the roster, scored eight points during the fourth quarter, when Stamford pulled away for the win. Cody also hit double digits earlier in the week when she netted 10 points, including six on a pair of three-pointers, in Stamford’s 59-39 win against Warde.
What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012-13?
Cody: "To become a much better player on and off court, and help our team in any way I can."
Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Cody: "I love everyone on the team for individual reasons, but I'd have to say our other senior Julie Piskin. We've been playing since we were little in Stamford youth, and been together through everything, the good and bad."
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Cody: "From my mom, who says believe in yourself and have confidence in yourself."
Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Cody: "Candace Parker, she's very humble but brings so much to the court. I like how she takes charge out there."
What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Cody: "Definitely applying to colleges and going through that whole process."
