Warde junior Cate Allen has been named the MSG Varsity's FCIAC Player of the Week for Jan. 28-Feb. 2 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters.
Allen was in the winner’s circle twice at the FCIAC track and field championships, as she finished first in the 1,600-meter run and helped the 4x800 team win its race. Allen won a close battle with Westhill’s Claire Howlett in the 1,600-meter run, with Allen finishing in 5:06.23, and Howlett finishing in 5:06.35. In the 4x800 relay, Allen teamed up with Katie Tangney, Paige Hanley and Caroline Keough and finished first in 9:46.45. Warde finished sixth in the team standings with 34 points.
What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012-13?
Allen: "My biggest athletic goal for the indoor track season would be to definitely endeavor to break 5 minutes and just have an overall season that I can be happy with."
Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Allen: "I wouldn't really say I could pinpoint a favorite teammate, I have a lot of really great teammates that enjoy working with."
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Allen: "The best piece of advice that I've received I would say is from my coach Mr. Foster, that the only person that can determine the outcome is myself."
Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Allen: "There's a lot of athletes that have influenced me running wise, but I would say my biggest influence would be my coach Mr. Foster he gives a lot of great advice overall running as well as nutrition and really knows the sport well."
What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Allen: "My proudest accomplishment away from the game I would suppose would be a student-athlete award."
