David Hahn
Wilton junior Lizette Roman-Johnston has been named the MSG Varsity's FCIAC Player of the Week for Sept. 17-22 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters. Roman-Johnston keyed a shutout in an FCIAC showdown last Wednesday as defending Class M champion Wilton knocked off Darien, 1-0. Roman-Johnston collected 13 saves, including several key stops in the final 10 minutes to nail down the victory. She also made two saves in Wilton’s 6-0 blanking of Warde two days later.
What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012-13?
Roman-Johnston: "The way we're playing now, I'd say to go undefeated. It's always nice win to win a title though, so if we can do that it would be great."
Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Roman-Johnston: "My centerback Jill Detrick-Yee. We communicate a lot, so she and the rest of our defense really makes my job easier."
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Roman-Johnston: "My mom Lisa told me when in doubt, go all out. That's what I try to do on the field."
Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Roman-Johnston: "I'm a big Yankees fan and I play first base in softball, so Mark Teixeira."
What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Roman-Johnston: "If I could keep it to sports, I'd have to say when we won states last year."
