Norwalk knocks off Stamford
NORWALK -- Delshawn Wilson did it all Saturday evening.
The senior wide receiver-turned-quarterback passed for 205 yards, accounted for three touchdowns and also came up with an interception as Norwalk sent a message to the FCIAC and earned some retribution with an impressive 25-12 victory over Stamford.
The Bears (2-0) jumped out to an 18-0 lead behind a big-play offense and a stingy defense that held the Black Knights (1-1) to just 44 total yards in the first half.
Wilson capped a 10-play, 42-yard drive with a 5-yard run midway through the first quarter, and later threw for two scores - including a highlight reel 82-yarder to senior Kenny Francois (97 receiving yards, 32 rushing yards on the day).
"This was an important win for us," said Wilson, whose team fell to Stamford 27-6 last season. "We knew we had tocome out and make a statement."
Senior John Anzalone punctuated a 10-play drive with a 1-yard plunge in the third quarter to make it 18-0.
The Black Knights finally got on the board late in the quarter on a 16-yard pass from Bryan Boderick to Nick Palumbo, who moments earlier recovered a muffed punt by the Bears.
Norwalk sealed the outcome with 2:15 remaining on a back-breaking 33-yard touchdown pass from Wilson to speedy senior Derick Edwards on fourth down.
Third down conversions were also huge as the Bears finished 9 of 18, while the Black Knights were just 1 of 9.
Stamford, which was held to 153 yards, did end on a positive note as Boderick scored on a 9-yard run for the final points of the contest.
The game, which was streamed live on MSGVarsity.com, will premier on MSG Varsity, iO Channel 14, on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
