Connecticut Region girls basketball rankings (1/17)
1. Danbury (10-0)
Casey Smith and the Hatters stayed perfect with a road win at Trinity Catholic, and will get another test at St. Joseph on Tuesday night.
2. Lauralton Hall (10-1)
The Crusaders have won nine straight – all by double digits.
3. St. Joseph (10-1)
It was a big week for the Cadets, who notched home wins over Trinity Catholic and previously unbeaten Trumbull.
4. Trumbull (9-1)
The defending FCIAC champions suffered their first loss of the season, 51-41, at crosstown rival St. Joseph on Friday night.
5. Staples (7-3)
Led by Nikki Bukovsky, four players finished in double figures for the Wreckers in a 62-56 win over New Canaan last Thursday.
6. Torrington (10-2)
The Red Raiders have ripped off seven straight victories behind senior Alyssa Otis, who is averaging 13.1 points and 8 rebounds per game.
7. New Canaan (7-5)
The Rams had won six of seven before being tripped up by Staples last Thursday despite 27 points, six assists and six steals from star guard Sarah Mannelly.
8. Trinity Catholic (6-5)
After back-to-back losses to league powers Danbury and St. Joe’s, the Crusaders have a big week with games against Darien and New Canaan.
9. Norwalk (7-3)
Since opening the season with three straight defeats, the Bears have come roaring back and take a seven-game winning streak into Tuesday’s road game at Greenwich.
10. Wilton (6-3)
The Warriors are responsible for St. Joe’s only blemish of the season. They have showdowns against Stamford and Norwalk on the horizon.
