Tarpey, Prep shine on Senior Night
Few players in Connecticut can fill up a stat sheet the way Terry Tarpey can.
The William & Mary-bound swingman turned Senior Night into another one of his personal showcases as Tarpey registered 29 points, 18 rebounds, eight assists, six blocks and three steals in his final regular-season performance at Alumni Hall Friday, leading Fairfield Prep to a comfortable 79-53 victory over Foran.
The contest was live-streamed on MSGVarsity.com and it was the 12th straight victory for the surging Jesuits (17-2), who took command of the SCC showdown with a 15-1 run to end the first quarter.
Junior forward Tim Butala had 16 points and Ryan Blake, one of five seniors who were honored before the game, added 10.
Fairfield Prep, a Class LL finalist a year ago, played with flair and put on a show for the home crowd. Tarpey had a number of highlight reel dunks and his full repertoire was on display.
With the outcome long decided, Tarpey was the last senior to come off the court late in the fourth quarter, and fittingly, left to a standing ovation.
"It felt great but this was more about my teammates," Tarpey said. "We have outstanding chemistry on this team, and we like to push the tempo. Hopefully we can re-create what we did last year, but with a different result in the last game."
Senior guard James Richetelli connected on a game-high five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points, while junior Austin Woods was a presence inside with 11 points and six boards. Junior Kevin Green had 10 points.
The Lions (10-9) jumped out to an early 8-4 lead, but it wasn't long before the Jesuits heated up. They shot over 50 percent from the field in the first half with 26 points in the paint over the first two quarters and just three turnovers to take a 43-17 cushion into the intermission.
It was Prep's second victory of the season over Foran by 23 points, the first coming back in mid-December.
