There were a number of three-sport standouts in the Connecticut Region during the 2011-12 season, and Staples rising senior James Frusciante happened to be one of them.
Let's start in the fall when the 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver/defensive back played a starring role in the Wreckers' FCIAC championship and Class LL runner-up season.
En route to CHSCA Class LL All-State and All-FCIAC West honors, Frusciante caught 37 passes for 870 yards -- an average of 23.51 per catch -- and nine touchdowns. Defensively, Frusciante made 62 tackles, four interceptions, two sacks, a fumble recovery and 11 passes defended.
During the basketball season, Frusciante scored in double figures seven times -- including five games with at least 14 points -- and was named as a player to watch in the FCIAC for 2012-13.
Frusciante's stellar junior season was capped in the spring when he was selected to the All-FCIAC West squad as a catcher in helping the Wreckers to a 16-8 campaign.
