2011 All-Connecticut boys soccer team
The MSG Varsity Connecticut staff selected the top players, coaches and teams from the 2011 season across the entire region.
Below are the award winners, as well as the first-team and second-team all-stars.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Bunnell, Sr., Forward
The senior capped a brilliant career with the Bulldogs by totaling 43 goals and 13 assists en route to All-American honors. A three-time All-SWC choice and two-time All-State and All-New England selection, the Monmouth-bound Zurita had career totals of 96 goals and 42 assists.
Trumbull, Sr., Foward
The Yale-bound senior forward totaled 15 goals and 15 assists in leading the Eagles to an 18-2-4 record, an FCIAC championship and the Class LL finals. Named first team All-FCIAC.
New Canaan, Sr., Midfielder
The talented senior was named to the All-FCIAC first team for the second straight year and merited All-State honors. Scored the game-winning goal in the Rams’ upset of Norwalk in the FCIAC quarterfinals.
Westhill, Sr., Forward
A two-time first-team All-FCIAC selection, the high scoring Gallego was chosen All-State after leading the Vikings to an 11-7-2 mark.
Watertown, Sr., Forward
One of the most prolific scorers in the state, the forward appeared in the CSCA Senior Bowl after leading the Indians to an 11-4-3 record.
Staples, Jr., Goalkeeper
The junior co-captain recorded 12 shutouts and allowed just 13 goals in 21 games for the Wreckers, who reached their third straight league final. Named All-State and first-team All-FCIAC.
New Canaan, Jr., Goalkeeper
The junior goalie has made a name for himself on the national level, and for good reason. Levene posted six shutouts on the season, and was selected All-State and first-team All-FCIAC for the second year in a row.
Bunnell, Sr., Midfielder
A two-time All-SWC selection, the senior midfielder was the MVP of the league tournament and also helped the Bulldogs win the Class L title. Finished his career with 16 goals and 30 assists, including 11 goals and 14 assists this past season.
Platt Tech, Sr., Midfielder
The All-State midfielder posted totals of 26 goals and 11 assists as a senior, and finished his career with 69 goals and 59 assists. Pantelic powered the Panthers to the CSC semifinals.
Wilton, Sr., Midfielder
The Warriors’ captain was chosen All-State, first-team All-FCIAC and participated in the CSCA Senior Bowl game.
Norwalk, Sr., Midfielder
Among the best finishers in the region, Zuniga finished with 17 goals and 10 assists as the Bears won the FCIAC regular season championship for the second straight season and reached the Class LL semifinals. Named All-State and All-FCIAC.
