2011-12 All-CT Region boys hockey team
David Hahn
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
MAX ROTHSTON
Darien, Sr., G
Dependable senior and two-time All-State goaltender was a big reason why a young Darien team was able to reach the FCIAC championship game. Posted a 2.19 goals-against average and was between the pipes for all of Darien’s big wins.
COACH OF THE YEAR
CHRIS GERWIG
Darien
In his first season as head coach of the Blue Wave, the former longtime coach at Trinity Catholic led a young but talented team to an 18-7 overall record after a rough 1-3 start, guiding Darien into the FCIAC championship game and the Division I Quarterfinals.
TEAM OF THE YEAR
FAIRFIELD PREP JESUITS
Just the latest powerful installment in a program which has owned the state for the past decade. All the Jesuits didn’t do was win a state title, falling to Glastonbury in a shocking Division I Semifinal loss at Yale’s Ingalls Rink. Other than that, Prep was dominant, going 19-4 overall with a 12-2 record against in-state competition.
First Team
Kevin Duane, Brunswick
An imposing 6-foot-4, 215-pound right winger, Duane helped lead the Bruins to the Empire Cup championship. The New Canaan native was selected 157th overall by the Quebec Remparts in the 2011 QMJHL draft. Duane plans on playing with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL before heading to Boston University.
David White, Fairfield Prep
The most consistent scorer on the state’s most consistent team, hard-working first-line junior forward led the Jesuits with 28 goals and 20 assists for 48 points. Whenever Prep needed a big play or a boost on offense, White was there to deliver.
A.J. Unker, Fairfield Prep
The second half of Prep’s 1-2 punch on its first line scored 12 goals while leading the Jesuits with 21 assists. One of the top playmakers in the state, the senior forward had a huge impact whenever he was on the ice.
Hank Glick, Darien
Senior defenseman was the anchor of Darien’s defense. His ability to hold the back line gave Darien’s speedy forwards the freedom to fly into the offensive zone without fear. His ability to lead a young defensive lineup helped the Blue Wave reach the FCIAC finals.
Tom Worsfield, Fairfield Prep
Senior defenseman was the top back-liner on a team that was deadly once it had a lead. Solid stay-at-home defenseman could also jump into the play on offense, finishing with four goals and eight assists.
Max Rothston, Darien
The two-time first team All-FCIAC netminder posted six regular-season shutouts. Rothston will do a PG year at South Kent next season.
Second Team
Brendan Hathaway (Darien, Junior, Forward)
Dylan Hart (New Canaan, Senior, Forward)
Nick Bruno (Darien, Senior, Forward)
Chip Glover (New Canaan, Senior, Defense)
Jon Meissner (Wilton, Senior, Defense)
Gryphon Richardson (Brunswick, Senior, Goaltender)
