Greenwich too much for Glastonbury
As far as the girls lacrosse landscape in the Connecticut Region goes, most of the early season buzz has centered on Wilton and Darien.
There is another defending champion, however, that is starting to make plenty of noise as well.
Senior attack Claire Feeney tied a career-high with seven goals and five other players scored multiple goals as Greenwich cruised past Glastobury 19-9 Tuesday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium in a rematch of last year's Class L finals.
The Cardinals (3-0) had to hang on for their title victory last June, but this contest didn't produce nearly the same kind of drama.
The Winthrop-bound Feeney set the tone for this rout with two goals in the first 1:11.
It was also a strong start to the second half for Greenwich, which scored four unanswered goals after halftime to take a commanding 13-5 lead.
Offensively, the Cardinals were clicking on all cylinders on this day.
Juniors Emma Christie and Sophie Waine both finished with a hat trick for the Cardinals, while Emily Johnson (committed to Denver), Tori Dunster (High Point) and sophomore Carolyn Paletta, who is already committed to North Carolina, each had two goals in the uprising. Dunster also had three assists and Shannon Colligan, another in the Cardinals long line of college-bound athletes, set up four scores.
Senior goalie Hannah Jeffrey, who is headed to Bates College next season, helped keep the Tomahawks (1-2) to single digits with nine saves.
