Suffolk County Class AA boys basketball brackets

LONG ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

Saturday, March 10 (at Hofstra University)

(N2) Baldwin 68, (S2) William Floyd 57

Rashid Lesane had 19 points, five rebounds and four steals as Baldwin (19-2) won the Class AA Long Island Championship at Hofstra. Baldwin will play in a state semifinal game at Glens Falls Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Aquinas.

FINALS

Tuesday, February 28 (at Farmingdale State)

(2) William Floyd 53, (5) Central Islip 45

Floyd (20-2) won the Suffolk Class AA Championship, its first county championship since 1997, over Central Islip. LaShon Washington had a game-high 17 points with 12 rebounds, while Anthony White also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 23 rebounds. Brandon Hornedo led the Musketeers with 13 points.

Friday, February 24 (at Farmingdale State)

(5) Central Islip 61, (8) Lindenhurst 58

Four Musketeers scored in double figures including Ishiah Booker who scored a team-high 18 points. Jasean Percell and Timothy McKenzie chipped in with 14 and 12 points respectively, as well as Brandon Hornedo who had 10.

Anthony White scored 25 points, with 14 rebounds and six assists to lead Floyd (19-2) over Deer Park (17-4) in the Class AA semifinals at Farmingdale State.

QUARTERFINALS

Tuesday, February 21 (at higher seed unless noted)

(8) Lindenhurst 67, (1) HHH West 64

Stew Warren's 31 points and 20 rebounds were the difference as Lindenhurst (16-4) upset Half Hollow Hills West in a Suffolk Class AA quarterfinal.

(5) Central Islip 55, (4) East Islip 48

Ishiah Booker scored 14 points while Jasean Percell added 12 points for Central Islip. Timothy McKenzie nearly had a triple-double as he finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists. In the loss, East Islip's Evan Maxwell scored a game-high 26.

(3) Deer Park 67, (6) Brentwood 64

Kyle Bradford's two free throws with 9.5 seconds provided the final margin for Deer Park (17-3) in a Class AA quarterfinal. Aaren Edmead's steal with 3.8 seconds left sealed the victory; he finished with 15 points. Sean Scott's putback off a missed corner three had given the Falcons a 65-60 lead with 41.6 to go before Brentwood (16.4) scored four straight, capped by Ira Burton's layup with 11.8 seconds left. Deer Park's Rome Jenkins scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, while Bradford scored eight of his 11 in the second half, going 4-for-4 from the line in the fourth quarter. Keith Williams scored 13 of his 17 in the first half.

Anthony White had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Floyd (18-2) over Longwood in the Suffolk Class AA quarterfinals. White tipped in an inbounds lob pass from Derek Haase (four assists) that gave Floyd a 53-49 lead with 21 seconds left. LaShon Washington added 10 points and nine rebounds.

 

FIRST ROUND

Saturday, February 18 (at higher seed unless noted)

(1) HHH West 56, (16) Commack 50

Senior Denzel Williams had a career-high 20 points and went 4-of-4 from the line in the final minute of the game to lead Hills West (16-3) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Nick Arnold had 23 points and went 10-of-11 from the foul line for Commack (12-8).

(8) Lindenhurst 63, (9) Smithtown East 53

Stew Warren had 25 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and four blocks to lead Lindenhurst (15-4) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Jon Feiler had 23 points for Smithtown East (12-7).

(5) Central Islip 64, (12) North Babylon 46

Max Attah scored all eight of his points in the second quarter to break the game open as Central Islip (18-1) beat North Babylon in the opening round of the Suffolk AA playoffs.

(4) East Islip 60, (13) Kings Park 59

Senior Evan Maxwell scored a career-high 40 points and made 13 out of 14 free-throws, including two that put East Islip (15-4) ahead for good at 55-53 with 47 seconds left in an opening round playoff game in Suffolk AA. Maxwell added 20 rebounds and Kings Park's Chris Savino had 14 points.

Kyle Bradford scored all 15 of his points in the second half and Keith Williams (15 points) made three three-pointers in the first quarter to lead Deer Park (16-3) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Ryan Bitzer had 29 points for Riverhead (9-11).

(6) Brentwood 62, (11) Bay Shore 41

Ira Burton had 14 points and 16 rebounds and Femi Olujobi had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks to lead Brentwood (16-3) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Gerrel Irvin had 15 points for Bay Shore (9-10).

(7) Longwood 58, (10) Bellport 48

Senior Chris Millender had 21 points and a season-high 20 rebounds for Longwood (15-4) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Dylan Overton had 17 points for Bellport (10-9).

(2) William Floyd 62, (18) Eastport-South Manor 42

Anthony White had 20 of his 29 points in the second and third quarters and sophomore Al Levisauskas had career-highs in rebounds (seven) and blocks (three) to lead Floyd (17-2) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs. No. 18 ESM ends its season at 13-6.

 

OUTBRACKET

Friday, February 17 (at higher seed unless noted)

(16) Commack 59 (OT), (17) Smithtown West 58

Down 55-53 with 12 seconds left, Smithtown West's Matt Schultz hit a put-back layup to tie the game and send it into overtime. In overtime, Commack was down 58-57 with 12 seconds left when senior John Stathis hit a put-back layup with six seconds left and the Cougars would hold on to get the win in an out-bracket game of the Suffolk Class AA Playoffs. Nick Arnold led Commack (12-7) with 27 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Stathis finished with 10 points and a career-high 20 rebounds for his first double-double of the year.

(19) Riverhead 73, (14) West Babylon 62

Junior Ryan Bitzer scored a career-high 27 points on seven three-pointers to lead Riverhead (9-10) past West Babylon in the Suffolk out-bracket game.

(18) Eastport-South Manor 43, (15) Connetquot 39

Anthony Annunziata hit two free-throws with 16 seconds left to seal the win for Eastport-South Manor (14-5) over Connetquot in the out-bracket round of the Suffolk AA playoffs.
