The Class AA champs of Section 1 made their incredible run as a No. 9 seed, winning three games on the road — all by two runs or less — before knocking off a John Jay-EF squad they lost to twice in the regular season. And they did it all without star Joe Boland, who broke his finger in the season finale. Truly a remarkable feat. |

A preseason favorite, the Gaels hit some bumps along the road. But everything clicked at just the right time. As coach Fred Gallo announced his retirement after 29 seasons, Iona Prep tore through the CHSAA playoffs and captured the AA city championship behind outstanding pitching and timely hitting. |

3 | John Jay-EF | 19-5 | 2 |
The Patriots faced as tough a schedule as any team in Section 1 and won 19 games and reached the Class AA title game. Although they lost to Arlington in the final, you could make a case that Jay was Section 1’s best overall team this year. |

4 | Harrison | 20-5 | 9 |
Riding the deepest pitching staff in the section, Harrison won its first Section 1 title since 2001. Max Bruckner turned in an epic postseason, winning three of the four Section 1 tournament games, including 3 2/3 innings of relief in a 10-inning win over Byram Hills in the final. Harrison lost in the regional finals to eventual state champ Cornwall. |

5 | Briarcliff | 23-5 | 7 |
The Bears claimed their second straight Section 1 championship and again reached the Class B state final. Briarcliff had as strong as a lineup 1 through 9 as you’ll find in the section and two aces in Spencer Kulman and Paul Henshaw. |

6 | Ketcham | 17-5 | 1 |
The Indians' reign as Section 1 champs ended with a heart-breaking quarterfinal loss to Carmel. Still, it was another oustanding year for the Indians, who split with eventual champs Arlington and took two out of three with runner-up John Jay-EF. Ketcham had the area's top player in senior Seth Lamando. Although he's gone, expect Ketcham to vie for a title again next season. |

7 | Fox Lane | 16-7 | NR |
The Foxes struggled with consistency at times this spring but the stage is set for a serious run at a Section 1 title next year. This was a good lineup that was young in the middle. And it says a lot about the program that, on an “average year” they still made it to the Class AA semifinals and lost to the eventual champ. |

The Mounties really hit their stride in the second of the season, capturing a league championship by sweeping rival North Rockland and knocking off a heralded Mahopac team in the Class AA opening round. |

9 | Mamaroneck | 16-6 | 5 |
It’s going to be an offseason of ‘What ifs’ for the Tigers, who’s season ended in the AA quarterfinals. With the tying run on second base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, their game with Arlington was rained out and they had to take a loss. Arlington went on to win the title. Nonetheless, a great season for Mamaroneck, which won its league and earned a No. 1 seed. |

Nobody could have forseen what the Bobcats did in the postseason. They rode the terrific arm of pitcher Andrew Slosberg and, as a No. 9 seed, knocked off Pearl River, John Jay-CR, and Beacon to reach the Section 1 title game, which they lost in 10 innings to Harrison. |
