Freshman Leads Lodi to Win

Freshman Leads Lodi to Win

In the season opener against Lyndhurst, the Lodi varsity softball team anticipated to nab a victory without breaking into a sweat. Little did they know that patience, perseverance and a freshman would aid them on their path towards victory.

With two outs and bases loaded, the team seemed far from victorious in the game's fourth inning. As each player went up to bat, the probability of winning seemed slim until it was freshman Linzi Reginald's turn for a swig. In order to at least catch up with Lyndhurst, Lodi needed a run—but Linzi did more than that. Reginald hit a grand slam, landing outside the softball field.

With a single hit, Lodi did much more than win, they proved a game is isn't over until it is really over. When approached about her winning hit, Linzi responded enthusiastically praising her teammates.

“I could not believe it. Softball is my entire life; I want to pursue it later on in life," Linzi said. "I just wanted to thank the upperclassmen who helped me along the way. They are like sisters watching over me.”

With their successful first game it is sure that the team will continue vying for the top spot. Along the seniors' help and the underclassmen’s' zest it will definitely be a winning season for the already talented group of ladies.
