SECTION 1 BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

SATURDAY: QUARTERFINALS

Class AA

Fox Lane 7, New Rochelle 6

T.J. Hallock drove in three runs as the fourth-seeded Foxes rallied back to defeat No. 4 New Rochelle. Fox Lane advanced to Tuesday's semifinal against either Mamaroneck or Arlington. Matt Oniffrey and Jackson Kushner each had two hits and RBI in the win. Jared Wiesel and Phil DiBuono each drove in two runs for New Rochelle.

Carmel 4, Ketcham 2

Ryan Mordecai hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh as No. 6 Carmel scored three runs and upset the defending Section 1 Class AA champion Indians. Brett Viola homered and Sal Gadero had three hits and an RBI for the Rams. Carmel will face No. 2 John Jay-EF in the semifinals.

Arlington 3, Mamaroneck 2

No. 9 Arlington upset top-seeded Mamaroneck in a rain-shortened game. The game was called with The Tigers batting with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and a runner on second base due to rain. Arlington will take on No. 4 Fox Lane in the semifinals on Tuesday.

John Jay-EF 6, Suffern 3

John Jay scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-2 lead and sat on the lead with solid pitching and defense. The game was delayed two and a half hours due to heat and thunder, and delayed again for an hour in the middle of the fifth inning. With darkness approaching, Jon Repetto relieved Ryan DiMarzo and closed out the final three innings to preserve the victory for the Patriots. Mike Laffin went 3-for-3 with and RBI, and Ryan Kaplan hit an RBI-double for John Jay. Joey Aioli homered for Suffern in the loss.

Class A

Kennedy 6, Tappan Zee 0

No. 3-seeded Kennedy's Oscar Giret pitched a complete game shutout, struck out seven and scattered five hits against No. 11 Tappan Zee. The Gaels took advantage of four Tappan Zee errors to take a 3-0 lead through two innings. They added two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. Chris Gillian scored three runs and had two stolen bases. Mike Ennis had an RBI, scored twice and stole two bases. Jason Agresti had an RBI ground out.

Beacon 5, Sleepy Hollow 0

Dan Golembiewski pitched a complete-game shutout as the fourth-seeded Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals. Beacon will host No. 9 Byram Hills on Tuesday.

Byram Hills 10, John Jay-CR 6

Chris Lattarullo homered and drove in four runs and Brian Hammer had two hits and three RBI as the ninth-seeded Bobcats held off No. 16 John Jay. Jack Hatheway pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits for the victory. Byram Hills will play at No. 4 Beacon in the semifinals on Tuesday afternoon.

Harrison 3, Somers 1 (6 innings)

In a game shortened by a thunderstorm, the second-seeded Huskies got another complete-game effort from a starting pitcher and advanced to the semifinals. Lefty Mike Forgione went the distance, allowing only a first-inning run. Austin Pollack smacked a two-run homer in the third inning and Raffaele Macchia delivered an RBI double for Harrison. The Huskies will host No. 3 Kennedy in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Class B

Hastings 15, Irvington 11

The 14th-seeded Yellow Jackets pulled off another huge upset, defeating an Irvington team that they lost to twice during the regular season.

Hastings took a 4-1 lead into the fifth inning before Irvington rallied for seven runs to gain control. Hastings, though, scored three in the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-7 going into the top of the seventh.

In the seventh, Nick Grasso and Brian Schoen each delivered two-run hits, and James Guiney added a two-run single. Grasso and Schoen each had two hits, and Matt DiPietro went 4 for 4 with three RBI. Brian Wu added three hits and three RBI in the win.

Miles Semetis and Konald Cupp each drove in three runs for Irvington.

Hastings will play at No. 2 Keio in Tuesday's semifinals.

Dobbs Ferry 6, Pleasantville 4

Danny Crowe led No. 5 Dobbs Ferry past the fourth-seeded Panthers. Crowe knocked in two runs with a third inning triple to deep left center and scored after the throw to third sailed wide for an early 3-0 lead.

Pleasantville tied the game in the bottom half of the inning after Nick Greto cleared the bases with a one-out double but Dobbs leapt ahead again with a two-run sixth inning that started with Crowe drawing a leadoff walk.

Dobbs Ferry’s Mike Boyle pitched six solid innings before Crowe came in to close out the seventh. Pleasantville’s Chris Leonard went the distance for the Panthers.
