SECTION 1 SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

QUARTERFINALS

Class AA

John Jay-EF 3, Arlington 1


The defending state champs rallied after a slow start and knocked off league-rival Arlington at home. No. 1 John Jay fell behind 1-0 in the third inning before Nicole DeCosta reclaimed the lead with a two-run single. Amanda Gisonni pitched a three-hitter for the victory as John Jay-EF earned a spot in the semifinals on Thursday against No. 5 Carmel.

Carmel 4, Fox Lane 0

Jasmine Ennabe struck out 12 and allowed just three hits and a walk as No. 5 Carmel knocked off No. 4 Fox Lane on the road. Samantha Fernandez homered in the victory. Carmel will play at No. 1 John Jay-EF in Thursday's semifinals.

Clarsktown South 5, Yorktown 2

Brittany Montana pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and also went 3 for 4 with an RBI as No. 3 South advanced to the semifinals. Allie Tobias had two hits and three RBI for the Vikings, who'll face No. 2 Ketcham on the road on Thursday.

Ketcham 8, Greeley 0

Class A

Beacon 4, Pearl River 3 (10 innings)

The Bulldogs knocked off top-seeded Pearl River, rallying from three runs down in the sixth inning before winning it in the 10th. Kristin Yannarell drove in Hope Angeloni with an RBI single in the 10th, ending the Pirates' four-year reign as Section 1 champs. Jenna Malouf, Kathleen Boyle and Sara Laurelli each drove in runs for Beacon. Boyle pitched all 10 innings for No. 8 Beacon, which will play at No. 5 Tappan Zee in the semifinals on Thursday.

Ursuline 10, Eastchester 9

The third-seeded Koalas rallied back from an 8-3 deficit in the fifth inning and then a one-run deficit in the sixth to hold off the sixth-seeded Eagles in a thriller. Lauren Filardi went 3 for 4 with five RBI, including the go-ahead two-run RBI triple. Ursulinen will host No. 7 Brewster in Thursday's semifinals.

Tappan Zee 9, Harrison 1

Paulia Gutkin pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts as No. 5 Tappan Zee avenged an early-season loss to No. 4 Harrison with a road playoff victory. Danielle Palambros had two hits and two RBI, and Kelly Connolly had two hits and two RBI for Tappan Zee. The Dutchies will host No. 8 Beacon in the semifinals on Thursday.

Brewster 8, Pelham 6 (8 innings)

Class B

Rye Neck 8, Westlake 0

Jessica Calvini pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and Diana King went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI as the top-seeded Panthers rolled to a victory. Marissa Bella added two RBI for Rye Neck, which will host No. 4 Dobbs Ferry in the semifinals on Thursday.
