Livecast primer: Rocky Point vs. Sayville softball
MSGVarsity.com Gametime Livecast hits the softball field for the first time this season as Rocky Point and Sayville face-off in a Suffolk County League VI matchup.
First pitch is scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. from Sayville High School.
This will be the first of two meetings that both the Eagles and the Golden Flashes will see of each other this year.
After getting off to a slow start this season by losing its first two games, Rocky Point is back on the winning track and is looking to unseat an undefeated Sayville team. The Eagles dropped its first two contests in close decisions, first to Shoreham-Wading River and then to East Hampton without even scoring a run.
However, Rocky Point made up for it four days ago in its first win of the season with a 8-1 victory over Westhampton Beach. Pitcher Annie Kennedy pretty much did it all for the Eagles, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and 2 RBI at the plate. On the mound, she struck out four in seven innings without allowing a walk in the winning effort.
Sayville has been on a roll in 2012 and don’t look like they’re slowing down any time soon.
The golden Flashes have won its first three contests of the year and only allowed two runs in the three games. First, Sayville easily defeated John Glenn, 15-0 on March 28. Kathleen Maehr and Merissa Selts combined to pitch a no-hitter. The two also made noise at the plate -- Maehr went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in the first inning, while Selts went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
The duo was at it again against Westhampton in a 9-0 victory, where they combined for yet another no-hitter. Selts continued her dominance last week against East Hampton in a 3-2, 10-inning win in which the hurler pitched all 10 innings.
