1. GLENN WRESTLING Glenn earned the BIG 10 winter championship as the Knights dominated the tournament and dual meet competition. They won the presitgious Union-Endicott duals in Binghamton. The Knights earned the Suffolk County team championship and saw senior Nick Meinsen become the school's first state individual champion in history after he earned the title at 130 pounds at the Times Union Center in Albany. Glenn, the top ranked team in the Large Schools state poll, has won 58 straight dual meets. Nick Terdick placed third in the state at 152 as the Knights punctuated a glorious season with two Division I All-State wrestlers.

2. SACHEM EAST GIRLS BASKETBALL Boston College-bound Kristen Doherty scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had six steals as Sachem East won the state Class AA championship with a 50-44 win over Shenendehowa. Kristen Doherty's sophomore sister, Meagan, had 18 points on 7-for-14 from the field, including four three-pointers. Sachem East will play the winner of Bergtraum-Christ the King in the Federation final Sunday.

3. HAUPPAUGE WRESTLING The Eagles were 23-0 in dual meets and crowned the school’s fifth state champion when freshman Mark West earned a 2-1 decision over Eric Lewandowski of Lancaster to capture the 96-pound crown in Albany. West finished the season with a 43-0.

4. HALF HOLLOW HILLS WEST BOYS BASKETBALL It ended badly for the Colts and their star, Tobias Harris. They were beaten by CBA Albany, 71-53, in the state Class AA championship game at Glens Falls, their first on-the-court defeat of the season. Harris fouled out early and finished with a season-low eight points and 2,105 for his career. Harris did have a highlight moment at Glens Falls, though, sinking the game-winning basket with eight seconds to go in a semifinal victory over Rochester East.

5. GARDEN CITY GIRLS TRACK The Trojans earned two national titles during a stellar indoor season. In addition to capturing the Nassau Class A indoor championship in dominating fashion, the Trojans 4x400 team of Taylor Hennig, Catherine Cafaro, Taryn Schmelzinger and Alexis Yebo captured the NYS Federation 4x400 championship in 4:01.95. Garden City's season didn't end there as Emily Menges, Michelle Rotondo, Cafaro and Hennig ran to a first place finish in 3:50.7 in the 4x400 at the Nike Indoor National championship in Boston. It was the second of two national crowns as the Trojans' quartet of Menges, Rotondo, Cafaro and Schmelzinger took first in the sprint medley relay in 4:02.84.

6. ROCKY POINT WRESTLING The Eagles crowned three state champions and earned the overall team title with 80 points. Two-time state champion Stephen Dutton (140), Anthony Volpe (160) and Billy Coggins (171) won four bouts apiece to claim individual state crowns.

7. ST. ANTHONY’S BOYS SWIMMING The Friars won its first dual-meet title and first CHSAA title in school history, continued its strong season at the Federation Swim Championships. In a comparison of times, St. Anthony’s is far superior than their counterparts at Half Hollow Hills, who fell to 10th. Christian Yeager took 4th in the 200 IM (1:54.33) and 6th in the 100 backstroke (52.71). Teammate Michael Forgione finished 7th in the 100 freestyle (47.37) and swam the lead leg on the 5th place 200 freestyle relay (1:28.62).

8. WARD MELVILLE GIRLS FENCING The undefeated Patriots finished the season with a 12-0 record and earned the school's ninth straight Suffolk championship.

9. LONG ISLAND LUTHERAN BOYS BASKETBALL The Crusaders will be defending their state Class A Federation title this weekend at Glens Falls, a title won last season with Tobias Harris winning tournament MVP honors after a huge championship game. Junior Achraf Yacoubou, also a star of last season’s championship run, is the team’s leading scorer this season. Lutheran will face Nichols Buffalo on Friday night.

10. PORTLEDGE BOYS ICE HOCKEY The team finished 18-4 in 2009-10, culminating its season with a semifinal loss to Albany Academy in the statewide Empire Cup Tournament. During the season it played a decidedly off-Island slate of games, tangling with some of the top high school programs in New Jersey, Boston and Pennsylvania. Sal Magliocco is ranked nationally among the top 25 goalies in his age bracket and played all but 15 minutes this season, compiling a 2.41 goals against average and .895 save percentage. Michael Goldstein and Ori Benyamini are tied for the team lead with 38 points apiece. Since 1999, Portledge has graduated 23 hockey player to top collegiate programs, and three players have gone on to careers in the NHL.
