Suffolk A FH Final: Sachem East vs. Ward MelvillePHOTOS Highlights: Sayville 3, Rocky Point 2, 11/09/11VIDEOS

Let’s call it a statement victory.

Sachem East was looking to evoke a bit of revenge on Ward Melville as these two teams met up in the county finals for the second year in a row. Last year, the Patriots were able to grab the victory, but this year, it was the Flaming Arrows. Behind the efforts of Katie Doherty and Kristen Bagley, Sachem North was able to grab the Suffolk Class A championship on Thursday night, 5-0.

The first half was completely dominated by the Flaming Arrows. Sachem East led in shots (12), shots on goal (6), penalty corners (5), and most importantly goals (3-0).

The Flaming Arrows got on the board with 18 minutes remaining in the half when Kara Trombetta netted a goal. Then seven minutes later, Katie Doherty scored her first of two goals in the half. The second was a very nice effort as she recovered a rebound and hit the back of the net to make it 3-0 heading into halftime.

After halftime commenced, Sachem East went right back on the offensive. Less than three minutes into the second half, Kristen Bagley scored her 13th goal of the season, and gave her squad a 4-0 lead.

However, Bagley’s night was not quite finished. Sachem would cap off their scoring when Bagley assisted Karen Ryan who went between her legs and into the goal. The goal improved her team’s lead to 5-0, and the Flaming Arrows would cruise from there to the Suffolk Class A Championship victory.

Sachem East will face Massapequa in the Long Island Championship at Stony Brook University on Saturday at 11:00a.m.

Sayville grabs small school championship

The Golden Flashes of Sayville High School were victorious in their attempt at the small school championship against the Babylon Panthers. Sayville scored two goals in the first half and three more in the second, as they cruised to the 5-0 win.

Julianna Fiorillo and Zoe Norton netted the first two goals for the Golden Flashes in the first half.  Olivia Cabral, Olivia Russell, and Taylor Mills were the goal-scorers for Sayville in the second half.

Sayville will play Garden City on Saturday at 1:30p.m. at Stony Brook University in the first round of the NYS Class B playoffs.

Babylon moves on to NYS Class C playoffs where they face Friends Academy at 4:00p.m. at Stony Brook.
