A golden season for Lawrence's football team just got even more special.
A trio of seniors from the Golden Tornadoes undefeated Class III Long Island championship team put ink to paper as they made their college decisions official by signing National Letters of Intent Wednesday morning on National Signing Day.
Lawrence wide receiver Eddie Robinson signed with Colgate; Tyler Fredericks officially committed to play at Stony Brook University and Islam Mohamed officially became the newest member of Cornell University.
Robinson couldn't hold his excitement in after he signed his name on his National Letter of Intent.
"It’s every little kids dream to play D-I football," said the star wide receiver and newest Raider. "I think all the hard work paid off."
To some students the committment process can be intimidating, but for others it can be easy. For Mohamed, it was a little different.
"It was so surreal. There’s so much thinking you have to do. You’re making life decisions," Mohamed said. "There’s so many aspects you have to look at. I think I held it well. I’m really happy with my decision."
Mohamed said choosing Cornell was an easy choice. Not just athletically, but academically.
"It’s second to none academically. I can go there and get a great education that’s tops," the senior lineman said. "The coaching staff is very young and energetic."
"They really care about the school and the players so it means a lot to me that I have their undivided attention in making me better in certain aspects because I still have a lot of room for improvement," Mohamed said.
Like Mohamed and every Golden Tornado, Robinson had the full support from his coach Joe Martilotti.
"Coach Mot is the reason why I have an athletic scholarship. He was in his office every day sending emails, making phone calls, inviting the coaches in," Robinson said. "I want to thank him a lot because he really helped with the process.
