Archbishop Dolan, Diocese of Rockville Centre visit Holy Trinity
On Saturday March 3, the Diocese Of Rockville Centre Public Policy Convocation was held at Holy Trinity. The day started with Mass with Bishop William Murphy, the bishop of the Dioceses of Rockville Centre. After Mass, Archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan, from the Archdioceses of New York, was the keynote speaker.
Cardinal Dolan, who received the title, last month, spoke to the theater, which was filled with guest, priest, deacons, and numerous members from the media, about the Catholic Social Teaching. One issue he spoke about was President Obama’s Health Care Mandate. The Cardinal said the issue is not just health care. “It is a freedom of religion battle,” Cardinal Dolan said. “It is not about contraception. It is not about women’s health.”
“We are not trying to impose our teachings on anybody,” he said. “We are simply saying don’t impose your teaching upon us and make us do as a church what we find unconscionable to do.”
The Cardinal encouraged the congregation to be more active in politics. “I’d recommend starting voter-registration drives at our parishes. Not only is it going to help churches, it is going to help our American republic. More voters the better,” Cardinal Dolan said.
Holy Trinity Chaplin Fr. Joe Fitzgerald thought it was a great day at Holy Trinity. “It was another great opportunity for the Holy Trinity community to shine,” he said. “The students, administration and faculty were on hand to help with Mass, greet the Catholic Charities guests, the media, and of course Bishop Murphy and Cardinal Dolan. It was an amazing experience of the universal Church, and to sit with those entrusted to teach our Catholic faith.” Fr. Joe said.
Fr. Joe added that his favorite part of the day was seeing the over thirty Holy Trinity students help out. “The best part of the day was the interaction of the Cardinal and the Bishop with our students—and Cardinal Dolan seemed to be genuinely interested in speaking to them as well as all who were on hand for the day everyone—he made time for the custodians, for the music ministry, ushers, LIGHTs, everyone.”
