Tri-State basketball Top 25: Week 6

The Hawks were thorough on both ends of the floor Sunday to knock South Jersey's Paulsboro from the undefeated ranks, 77-47, at the Prime Time Shootout. Georgetown-bound swing Reggie Cameron popped in 31 points and sophomore Nassir Barrino had 12.

Star guard Joel Hernandez suffered an ankle sprain early in last Sunday's Bergen Jamboree win over Cresskill and likely won't return until the semifinals on Sunday vs. St. Mary. Shaakir Lindsey and Myles McLeod will have to carry the load tonight against Hackensack.

Princeton-bound Spencer Weisz scaled 1,000 career points last Tuesday in a 73-70, double-OT win over Newark Tech, and he posted two double-doubles in the week. Freshman guard Temple Gibbs averaged 21.3 points over the last three games.

Senior guard Hakeem Rogers has averaged 19.5 points to lead the Minutemen to four straight wins since an overtime loss to Roselle Catholic. He, Damon Miraud and Isaiah Davis look to avenge a December loss to Linden Wednesday night at home.

The Lions lost back-to-back league games last week, falling at home to Molloy and dropping a thriller at Christ the King. Next: Iona Prep (Tuesday, 6 p.m.)

Jake Krantz scored 14 points and Rob Ukawuba had 12 points, four assists in the Bears' 60-49 loss to Roselle Catholic Sunday. They launch their Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament bid Thursday vs. the winner of the Iselin Kennedy-Perth Amboy game.

Soufiyane Diakite had 17 points and Francisco Infante added 15 in a 76-59 win over JFK Thursday. Next: Taft, Borough quarterfinals (Tuesday, 5 p.m.)

Versatile guard Jetor Brown and hard-working forward Quatier Jackson have led the Ghosts to six straight wins since their eight-point loss to Teaneck Jan. 21. Top-seeded Eastside faces DePaul at noon Saturday in the Passaic County Tournament semifinals at Paterson Kennedy.

The Stanners proved a home win against Loughlin was no fluke, beating the Lions in Fort Greene, 64-62, last Tuesday. Next: Mount St. Michael (Tuesday, 4 p.m.)

The Crusaders had continued to climb up the Tri-State Top 20 by knocking off previously top-ranked Shabazz

Taylor Butigian had 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks in a 45-44 win over Bishop Ford Sunday. Next: Bishop Loughlin (Wednesday, 5:45 p.m.)

While her older sister Taylor generates a lot of headlines with her all-round play, Morgan Rooks is beginning to get people to notice her work ethic inside. The 5-10 sophomore, who complements her 6-0 junior sibling, pulled down 10 rebounds last week against both Hillsborough and Watchung Hills to aid victories.

Awarded the top seed for the Shore Conference Tournament recognizes both the strong campaign put forth by the Caseys and the quality veteran cohesiveness that comes in handy when trying to navigate through this gauntlet. Senior guard Caroline Corcoran (11.0 ppg.) is the lone player averaging double figures, a testament to RBC’s selfless halfcourt style.

The Bulldogs ended their regular season with a sour taste, playing poorly (by their standards) against Ossining. However, sometimes a loss can light a fire under a team, and if there is any coach that can get a team to bounce back heading into the playoffs, it’s Gina Maher.

The backcourt trio of Taylor Anderson, Caitlin Roche and Samantha Wilkes combined for 36 points to drive top-seeded IHA to a 58-42 triumph over Old Tappan on Sunday in the Bergen County quarterfinals. The Blue Eagles will look to avoid the upset on Saturday at noon when they face Ridgefield Park in the semis.

The Vikings ended the regular season with a 44-37 loss to St. Mary’s (Manhasset), but will still be a favorite in the PSAL Class AA playoffs. Next: Bishop Ford @ Gauchos Gym (Sunday, 2 p.m.)

Geena Rosalbo scored 16 points in a 76-62 win over Tottenville, the 500^th of coach Bob Daggert’s career. Next: @ Staten Island Academy (Saturday, 5 p.m.)

Tori Crea and Victoria Rubin had 16 points apiece in a 56-40 win over St. Joseph by the Sea last Wednesday. Next: Cardinal Spellman (Saturday, 1 p.m.)

One of the toughest schedules any team in the Tri-State has faces should have the Lady Lancers primed as they embark on their bid to add to their unmatched collection of 12 Shore Conference Tournament titles as the two seed. The Holmdel school, which is paced by senior guard Lyndsay Rowe (12.5 ppg., 27 3-pointers), has not won the SCT since 2005.
