    Prendergast had seven tackles, including three for a loss, and returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown as Long Island held NYC scoreless in the first half and hung on to win, 24-18, at Hofstra. Justin Rivera (Sachem North) had six tackles and Joe Sotomayor (St. Anthony's) added six tackles and a forced fumble. Butts and Farmingdale linebacker Joe Lee had three tackles apiece.

    Mom's smile brings joy to Malcolm Pridgeon

    His father, James Earl Pridgeon, passed away from a heart attack when Pridgeon was 11, and his mom, Peggy White, had a heart attack and a stroke at the same time a couple of years later. It drove Pridgeon to get to where he's at today, starring as one of the top linemen for Long Island as it preps for the Empire Challenge All-Star football game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium.

    Roosevelt's Akins ready to run at Empire Challenge

    Akins, a 5-9, 190-pound running back, is pretty good himself. That's why he was selected to play in this year's Empire Challenge All-Star football game. The 19th annual game, scheduled for at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium, showcases Long Island's top seniors against the best of the five boroughs in New York City.

    That's part of what makes being a member of the Empire Challenge All-Star football game so much fun. When coaches told everyone from the Long Island team to get some water at the midway point of practice, Jenkins just smiled.

    Foster stands out at Blue Chip Prospects combine

    In five of the six combine tests, Foster placed in the top five. In the 3-cone event (6.76), the vertical jump (37-2) and the 20-yard (5-10-5) shuttle (4.19), Foster took first.
