    Eastport-South Manor’s Rizzi blanks E. Islip

Rizzi had seven strikeouts, and only one runner reached second base. East Islip’s Courtney Greene allowed one run and four hits and struck out nine, including six looking.

With runners on second and third, and Plainedge nursing a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning, Bethpage’s Courtney Ludewig crushed a fly ball to deep leftfield. Cleary initially misplayed the ball somewhat but then backtracked and made a full-extension reach to haul it in.

Lové is essential for high-flying Mount Sinai softball

Though the Mustangs graduated key seniors from last season’s county championship team — and though they’ll start two eighth-graders, four freshman and three sophomores — they remain a threat to repeat. That’s thanks in part to Drumgole, a five-tool shortstop who, before stepping onto the field for her sophomore season, was voted team captain and accepted an offer to play Division I softball at Longwood University.
