Kellenberg's second half surge sinks Regis
As the stands clamored with vociferous fans the Kellenberg Firebirds (9-5) took on Regis High School (2-14) Saturday in their home gym for the 11th Annual Tom Crotty Classic.
Leading scorer for Kellenberg was Richie Ragusa with 21 points and was four for eight from the three-point line as the Firebirds flew by the Raiders, 78-47. Center Bryan Gellineau added 12 points up on the board and had 10 rebounds.
“Our game plan is always to try and get it into Bryan because he’s such a big body,” Ragusa said. “He can always out-power somebody so we try to get him the ball as much as we can.”
Gellineau isn’t the only teammate Ragusa depends on.
Senior guard/forward Jeremy Arthur had 11 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists, which according to Ragusa led to the team’s victory this evening.
“He does it all,” Ragusa, senior, said. “He had some great passes today which really helped us get the win.”
During the first half the Raiders kept the score, but the firepower of Kellenberg was too much.
Sophomore Charles Gavigan, the team’s leading scorer, once again led his squad. He went three for five from the three-point line, scoring a total of 12 points. Liam Hogan chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The tournament was in honor of former Maria Regina alum, now Kellenberg, Tom Crotty, who was tragically killed in the World Trade Center during the attacks on September 11, 2001. Crotty graduated in 1978.
