The 2011 Long Island boys soccer regular season is just about in the books but the competition keeps rolling on.
MSGVarsity.com Livecast presents a League II showdown between Half Hollow Hills East and Lindenhurst this afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
Both teams find themselves on opposite sides of the League II standings.
Half Hollow Hills East (10-0-1 conf., 12-1-1 overall) have been on a roll all season long since losing its first game, a non-league contest to North Babylon. Since that defeat, the Thunderbirds have outscored their opponents by combined score of 37-7.
The Thunderbirds most recent victory came in a tight 1-0 defeat of Northport. Jake Freeman scored the game-winning goal with 12:38 remaining in the contest to give Hills East the advantage. Jordan Gross made four saves for the shutout.
Both teams are no strangers to each other, however. Hills East and Lindenhurst have met already this season with the Thunderbirds coming out on top 5-0 on October 6. Freeman, had a goal and two assists in the win, while Gross starred with six saves for the shutout.
The Bulldogs of Lindenhurst HS (2-9-1 conf., 2-11-1 overall) are looking to finish out the season on a positive note after a rough go-around in 2011. Lindenhurst has scored just six goals all year and it has been a struggle to put the ball in the net.
The team is looking to ward off a three-game losing streak and aim to get back on the winning column for the first time in 11 days, that coming in a 2-0 victory over Central Islip.
Adoni Delveccio and Nick Doran scored goals for the Bulldogs in the winning victory.
