1. SACHEM EAST FIELD HOCKEY The defending Class A state champions opened the season with two impressive wins last week. Katie Trombetta scored two goals each in a 5-0 victory over Northport and a 9-1 win over Newfield. (Previous rank: 1)
 
2. LAWRENCE FOOTBALL The offensive juggernaut rolls along as Lawrence dumped Lynbrook, 54-6, this week. The Golden Tornado has scored 116 points through two games. Junior quarterback Joe Capobianco threw for four touchdowns, including a 38-yarder to Jordan Fredericks to open the scoring. Capobianco completed 8 of 10 passes for 150 yards. (Previous rank: 2)
 
3. BRENTWOOD BOYS SOCCER The Indians picked up two wins last week, including a 6-0 win over Patchogue-Medford that gave coach Ron Eden his 250th career win in his 17th season. His career record is 250-43-23. Carlos Escobar had four goals in the two wins and the Indians have outscored opponents, 17-2. (Previous rank: 3)
 
4. GARDEN CITY FIELD HOCKEY The Trojans, Long Island's Class B champs, earned three shutouts last week, two against its biggest Nassau rivals. Garden City looked dominant in a 3-0 win over Cold Spring Harbor and a 2-0 win over Manhasset. (Previous rank: 4)
 
5. ST. ANTHONY’S BOYS CROSS COUNTRY The Friars swept the team championships -- varsity, JV, sophomore and freshman -- Saturday in the Suffern Invitational. Patrick Ginty finished second on the three-mile course at Bear Mountain State Park in 15:44 to lead the way. (Previous rank: 5)
 
6. NORTH SHORE GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY North Shore kicks its season off on Wednesday with a Conference III quad-meet at Bethpage State Parkled by Elizabeth Caldwell and Jessica Donohue. (Previous rank: 6)
 
7. SAYVILLE FOOTBALL A stifling defense led by a Patrick Waters 13-yard interception return for a score shut out Islip, 21-0, as the Golden Flashes improved to 2-0. Zach Sirico threw a 42-yard scoring pass to Matt Starr to open the scoring. (Previous rank: 7)
 
8. MASSAPEQUA BOYS VOLLEYBALL Massapequa boys volleyball has won 12 straight Nassau titles and remains atop the standings two games in. The Chiefs haven't dropped a set this season, allowing no more than 15 points in the combined six sets they've played so far. (Previous rank: 8)
 
9. SYOSSET GIRLS TENNIS The three-time defending Nassau champions and defending Long Island Champions, and seem to have restocked their lineup with senior Vivian Cheng at first singles. The Braves handled Roslyn and Garden City in their first two matches, 6-1. (Previous rank: 9)
 
10. SOUTH SIDE GIRLS SOCCER The defending Class A state champs kicked off the season with a perfect 3-0 week. Keri Cavallo had three goals and four assists and keeper Sarah McCarthy recorded three shutouts. (Previous rank: 10)
