Girls basketball is back in action on MSGVarsity.com Live Access.
Today’s double-dip of girls basketball action is live from Lindenhurst High School where Amityville will take on Our Lady of Mercy in the Lindenhurst Tournament Consolation game starting at 4:15 p.m. Lindenhurst will take on Mattituck in the nightcap championship game starting at 6:00 p.m.
Our Lady of Mercy (0-2) comes into the consolation game after falling to Mattituck on Tuesday, 52-41. Mercy held an 8-point lead after the first quarter and led 22-20 at halftime, but Mattituck righted the course as they outscored Mercy 19-6 in the third quarter to gain the victory. Renee Rios led the Mustangs with 12 points, while Marilyn Lehmuller and Samantha Lynch each added 11 points apiece in the defeat.
As for Amityville (0-2), the Warriors fell to Lindenhurst, 52-27, on Tuesday, so they will oppose Our Lady of Mercy in the consolation game. Lindenhurst rode a 20-7 first quarter then a 14-4 third quarter to a 25-point victory. Shawna Thorton leads the Warriors as she has averaged 11 points per game through the first two games this season.
As for the championship game, Mattituck (1-1) is led by Shannon Dwyer (16 points and 9 rebounds against OLMA), Ally Wilcenski (13 points, 12 rebounds), and Katie Hoeg (8 points). The Bulldogs of Lindenhurst counter with the ever-impressive Val Oyakhilome who broke out for 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 steals against Amityville. Alex Perdue (8 points, 8 assists) and Randi Zorn (7 points) each provide balance for the Lindenhurst offense.
