Live primer: Harborfields at Kings Park boys hoops
The Harborfields Tornadoes will travel to Kings Park tonight to meet up with the Kingsmen in a prime Suffolk League V boys basketball contest. MSGVarsity.com live access will have all of the action beginning at 5:45 p.m.
Taking a look at the last time these two met up, Harborfields (11-3, 10-0, first in League V) was pushed to the brink by Kings Park (11-5, 8-2, second in League II) in a 61-58 victory on January 10. Jon Patron led the Tornadoes with a game-high 18 points, but Doug Gaffney scored nine points in the fourth quarter that ensured the victory for Harborfields.
Since then, the Tornadoes have been a perfect 5-0 and are currently riding an eight-game winning streak. During that time, Harborfields has knocked off the likes of Rocky Point, Eastport-South Manor, and Islip. The Tornadoes proved why they are one of the best teams in Suffolk Class A with in their last game, a 71-34 victory over Islip.
As for Kings Park, they too have been on a hot streak of sorts. The Kingsmen have compiled a 4-1 record since the loss to Harborfields, while taking out Sayville, Eastport-South Manor, Westhampton, and Rocky Point. The only loss that Kings Park was handed was a 51-49 edging by Islip.
Taking an in depth look at Kings Park, the Kingsmen are led by a pair of terrific scorers in Craig Jeudy and Johnny Li. Jeudy has averaged 17.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this season, while Li scores at a 15 points per game clip this season. However, this is not a two-man show, Garrett Schappert is a solid three-point threat, and Matt Moser is tough on the offensive glass.
On the flip side, Patron has proven to be one of the best overall players in Suffolk County while averaging 22.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game to lead the Tornadoes. Chris Burkley averages in double-figures as well scoring at 11.3 points per game. Watch out for the 6-foot-9 Chris Brady who is good for nine points, nine rebounds, and a handful of blocks per game.
The importance of this game could not be greater. A win for Harborfields would clinch the League V title, but a loss would give Kings Park an outside shot at the title. Also, the Kingsmen would look to hold off their archrival from achieving the title on their own court on Senior Night.
So be sure to check out all of the action with Jimmy Cavallo and Rob Pavinelli on the call tonight starting at 5:45 p.m., and following the conclusion of the game it will be made immediately available on MSGVarsity.com for replay. This game will premiere on MSG Varsity Optimum. Channel 14 on Wednesday, February 6 at 9:00 p.m.
