MSG Varsity continues its blanket-style coverage of boys and girls lacrosse with a marquee cross-regional girls lacrosse matchup.
The Blue Wave of Darien High School will make the hour-long trip down I-95 to meet the defending six-time NYS Class ‘B’ champions, and MSG Varsity’s top-ranked girls lacrosse team, the Garden City Trojans.
The opening draw control is slated for 4:30 p.m. at Warren King Field in Garden City, NY.
The Trojans of Garden City are one of the hottest teams in the tri-state area, let alone in the nation, and they show no signs of slowing down. They currently are riding a 53-game win streak, having not lost a game since a 17-6 defeat to Massapequa back on May 14, 2009.
So far this season, Garden City is averaging just under 18 goals a game, with its closest margin of victory coming at eight goals in a 17-9 victory over Hewlett in its first game of the season. Alexandra Bruno is at the forefront of the Trojans attack, notching at least five points in four games this season. Through the 2012 campaign, the senior attack has 18 goals and 9 assists to lead the team.
Garden City is also looking for its fourth straight win against the Connecticut girls lacrosse power. So far since 2009 when both teams started the annual matchup, the Blue Wave have yet to come up on the winning side.
Darien enters this contest, like its opponent with an undefeated record at 4-0. And just like their opponents, the Blue Wave have no problem putting the ball in the back of the cage. Through four games, Darien has averaged exactly 18 goals per game.
Prior to the Blue Wave’s most recent 18-10 victory against Loomis Chafee, they engaged in their closest contest of the season, a 14-10 win over Staples. Taylor Hardison and Hollis Perticone led all girls with four goals on the afternoon, while Jenna Fritts and Emily Stein both had a pair each.
