Second Nassau Hall of Fame class named

Announced at a press conference Tuesday morning in Mineola, the Class of 2016 includes 11 athletes, eight coaches, six administrators, four officials and two contributors. They will be formally inducted on Sept. 28 in a ceremony at the Crest Hollow Country Club and join the 23 in last year’s inaugural class.

Elmont wins first boys basketball state title

Give Elmont straight A’s and move the Spartans to the head of the class. Class A, that is. Elmont schooled Troy in the subjects of defense and rebounding and won its first boys basketball state championship with a 57-43 victory Sunday at Glens Falls Civic Center.

Elmont holds on to win state Class A semifinal

Sinon wound up with an open look from deep in the corner, but his hurried three-pointer was short, and the Spartans and their tenacious defensive wizards hung on for a 50-48 victory Saturday in their first trip to the state Class A semifinals at Glens Falls Civic Center. The Spartans (22-3) will face local favorite Troy in Sunday’s championship game at 1:30 p.m. Troy trounced Williamsville, 78-39, in the other semifinal.
