Tucker’s speed showcased for LI team

He ran 9 yards for the game’s first score, giving Long Island a 7-0 lead with 4:53 left in the first quarter. In the fourth, he caught a 12-yard pass from Carey’s Michael Catanese that helped Long Island take a 34-33 lead with 1:46 left.

Long Island gets lift from hook-and-ladder

With 10:00 left in the third quarter, Long Island trailed 20-14 and faced a fourth-and-12 at the New York City 22. Quarterback Ryan Klemm (Newfield) drilled a pass to Mike Elardo (Syosset) on the left sideline for a 5-yard gain . . . short of a first down but that was by design. Elardo avoided the charging cornerback and tossed to trailing running back Jude Innocent (Roosevelt) who tightroped down the sideline for another 17 yards and a touchdown that tied the game.

Harris-Legree stars in NYC Empire Challenge win

Grand Street Campus quarterback Sharif Harris-Legree had a history-making MVP performance in leading New York City to a 39-34 win over Long Island at the 21st annual Empire Challenge held Tuesday night at Hofstra University.

Plainedge kicker Dylan Burns has powerful leg

The Albany commit said he could convert a 55-yard field goal, and he hopes to get the chance Tuesday when Long Island faces New York City in the 21st Empire Challenge at 7 p.m. at Shuart Stadium. As the only kicker on Long Island’s roster, Burns knows he will start. The rest of Long Island’s starters were announced after Monday’s practice.

LI QBs Klemm, Catanese have myriad of talented receivers

Klemm and Catanese hope to share the ball with a fleet of fleet receivers that includes Green, track star Infinite Tucker (Huntington), Mike Elardo (Syosset), James Pryor (St. Anthony’s) and four more players with game-breaking skills.

The 21st edition is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium.

LI’s elite linemen prepare for Empire Challenge

Long Island’s top senior football players will face an all-star team from New York City in the Challenge itself, but practices leading up to the game have featured some of the best linemen in Nassau and Suffolk battling in the trenches.

Hopkins learns new skill for Empire Challenge

Hopkins is one of those linebackers whose aggressive playing style might be somewhat restricted by rules that prohibit blitzing and limit defenses to a cover-3 alignment that essentially forces one of its outside backers into pass coverage.

Bailey, Leach get to live dream in Empire Challenge

Bailey, a middle linebacker and Leach, a defensive end, are teaming up one last time as they help lead Long Island’s talented defense in the Empire Challenge football game, which is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hofstra.

Kuinlan back at running back for LI all-stars

While he improved his passing to the point where he threw for 1,355 yards and 12 touchdowns, it wasn’t much of a switch for him to be a running back in this year’s Empire Challenge. And it’s no surprise that Division I Wagner College recruited him as a running back.

Carey's 'Cats' teammates one last time at Empire Challenge

Anthony Catapano and Mike Catanese will be teammates for a final time in the 2016 UnitedHeathcare Empire Challenge.

Harriott, Farese are up to the challenge
