Together, Lions roared to state title

Down the season's final stretch, West Islip operated with machine-like efficiency and cohesiveness. In hindsight, the bitterness endured during the Bay Shore game made the celebration following the team's 10-9 win over Suffern in the Class A championship even sweeter.

CSH put anger to good use on state title journey

The 2015 Seahawks definitely had the 'it' factor. They not only had three on attack and three at midfield that could score from anywhere on the field, a veteran goalie and a senior leader on defense, but they had an all-powerful motivational tool entering the season: Anger.

Mt. Sinai's defense keyed state title run

Actually, that defense-first mentality was brewed long before the start of the season. The Mustangs (20-1) did not allow a single opponent to reach double figures during its run to its second state title in three years, but that was just the continued success of a system already in place.

    Chaminade's one goal: A three-peat

The one-sided victory that produced the Flyers' third straight AAA crown left veteran coach Jack Moran shaking his head afterward. "The kids played awesome!" he exclaimed, and this time, the oft-overused word was an apt description.

    State tournament was Shark weekend

Giacolone and Huff emerged from the hotel room confident, determined, focused, and the rest of the team took note. Yes, these Sharks were in unfamiliar waters -- the team had won the county tournament two of the last three seasons, but with its one-goal victory over Wantagh in the Long Island final, ESM had punched its ticket to the state tournament for the first time.
