Power rankings: LI/NYC hockey (1/24/12)
1. St. Anthony’s (12-0 CHSHL)
Can anyone stop the Friars in the CHSHL? St. Anthony’s have been rolling in 2011-12 with a goal differential of 77-18, and most recently a 9-3 win over NYC’s Monsignor Farrell at Coney Island. They'll face off with rival-Chaminade on Friday night and will look to make it a perfect-three-for-three season series.

2. Connetquot/Sayville (16-1)
The race for first place in the SCHSHL is on in Suffolk as the regular season nears a close. The Thunderbirds are coming off an easy 16-1 win over winless Ward Melville last Wednesday and await St. John the Baptist on Monday.

3. Smithtown/Hauppauge (18-1)
The Bulls have done a good job keeping the puck out of their own net, winning its last two games against Middle Country and Hudson Valley’s Orange County West by a combined score of 18-1. Their latest victory against OCW came without some of their star players, an even more impressive feat against a team Smithtown/Hauppauge did not know much about.

4. Massapequa (12-3-1)
The Chiefs haven’t lost in their last six contests, going 5-0-1 in that span, its most recent victory coming Monday night over Great Neck, 8-3. They have gotten strong goaltending from starting netminder Dana DeMartino, who was just recently featured on the HS SportsDesk.

5. Long Beach (11-4)
The Marines avenged last week’s loss to Cold Spring Harbor in dramatic fashion Monday night. Down 3-2 with less than a minute left and its goalie pulled, Long Beach forced the game into overtime with 11 seconds left, and followed its up with the game-winning goal in the extra session with just two ticks left on the clock by Rob Delury.

6. St. Joseph by the Sea (4-5-2)
The Vikings seem to be on a collision course with rival Monsignor Farrell for the final playoff spot in CHSHL Class A. Both teams have identical records and are currently tied with 10 points each. Something has to give.

7. Syosset (11-4)
Following a 13-3 win over Great Neck last week, the Braves fell off the horse Monday night to newly ranked Bellmore-Merrick. They’ll look to get back on the winning track against

8. Bellmore-Merrick (9-4-2)
Recent wins against ranked teams (Massapequa, Oceanside and Syosset) have propelled the pesky Bulldogs into the weekly power rankings. The Bulldogs have another big test on their hands against Long Beach on Friday and will look to avenge last week’s close 3-1 loss.

9. Monsignor Farrell (4-5-2)
The Lions fell to No. 1 St. Anthony’s, 9-3, Friday night at Abe Stark Rink. Farrell had plenty of power play opportunities but struggled to cash in.

10. Fordham Prep (3-7-1)
Sitting three points behind St. Joseph by the Sea and Monsignor Farrell lie the Rams, ready to pounce. Every game from here on out is a playoff game, especially Saturday’s clash against the Vikings.
