    Cornell tosses three-hitter, homers in Clarke win

    Playing on her future home field, Cornell tossed a three-hitter, hit a tiebreaking three-run home run and drove in four runs in No. 2 Clarke's 6-1 win over top-seeded Carey in Game 1 of the Nassau Class A finals.

    St. Anthony's falls to Molloy in CHSAA state title

    Marcheschi and her teammates nearly had the Friars' first softball state championship plaque in the palm of their hands, but they came up just short, falling to Archbishop Molloy, 3-1, in the CHSAA state championship game at Hofstra Tuesday.

    In the final regular-season game of her high school career, Sasuk pitched a five-inning no-hitter and went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs as Babylon rolled into the playoffs with a 14-0 victory over Port Jefferson in Suffolk VI.

    Lalier, Hamdan deliver for Massapequa

    With two outs, the bases full, and Massapequa trailing 5-3, Lalier ripped a triple to the rightfield corner to clear the bases and give the Chiefs a 6-5 lead.

    Diving catch sparks Long Beach to playoff win

    Kelsey Larson walked off the field after she had just made a diving catch to end the top of the fourth inning during Long Beach's 8-2 win over Farmingdale in the Nassau Class AA first-round playoff game on Wednesday. As she huddled with her team by the third base line, the opposing coach came out of the dugout and walked all the way to the pitcher's mound.

    Shamroth, a sophomore who tore her ACL over the summer, hit the first home run of her career to highlight a nine-run first inning for Sacred Heart.

    West Islip won another one Thursday after Wandzilak struck out 13, went 3-for-4 and securely gripped that rope to lead the Lions to a 3-2 victory over Bay Shore.

    Kellenberg's Piorkowski to honor late dad

    Her father, Steve Piorkowski -- who coached softball, basketball, and bowling at Bayside High School in Queens -- passed away Feb. 18 at the age of 54, after a three-year battle with cancer.

    Turato gets help from above in Carey's win

    Ratto passed away two weeks before the season began, so Turato wrote his saying on the inside of the hair bow she wears each game. And Friday, during Carey's 7-1 softball win over Island Trees, she gave the ball a ride over the fence for the first time in her five-year career.

    Rizzi, a junior who verbally committed to St. John's, has allowed only two earned runs in six games this season. She tossed her third shutout, allowing six hits and two walks and striking out six, and said her defense had one of the best games she's seen it play.

    She delivered a walk-off single Monday to lift host Seaford to a come-from-behind, 5-4 win over Division.

    "Our one mission is for everyone to work towards one goal," pitcher Krista Carcaterra said Saturday after Massapequa defeated Calhoun, 6-2, to remain unbeaten. "When we all put in our little attributes, we will accomplish that one mission of being the best we can be."

    Freshman Shaw's 3 HRs, 7 RBIs power Sayville

    The 5-2 freshman, who hit five home runs combined in her first two seasons on varsity, hit three over the fence Tuesday. She had the best game of her young career, going 4-for-4 with seven RBIs and a walk.

    Commack holds off Connetquot in 10 innings

    With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Bluethgen induced a grounder that was hit directly to third baseman Jill McFadzen, who tossed to first to end the game.
